The focus of the role

The role is focussed on working in a DevOps team in the Operations of a Telco Grade Network Cloud (Telco Cloud) that supports Telstra’s 4G and 5G Mobile Network. Being in a DevOps team, you will be required drive, or participate in, development, acceptance testing and operational support of Telco Cloud.

Job Summary:
As a member of a cross functional team accountable for building and maintaining the Core Application platforms using new ways of working Agile and DevOps practices and values, you will provide technical leadership on aspects of the design, development, operational support and life cycle management of a Telco grade Cloud platform that supports a 4G/5G network.

Key Responsibilities:
Support the subject matter expert for Telco Grade Cloud technology and deployment.
Good understanding of 4G/5G networks, Cloud architecture, IP networking and understanding of various network protocols with an ability to troubleshoot E2E.
Perform various Application development, support and life cycle management activities as DevOps team member, for example:
System capacity management and optimisation
Production operation support, providing Technical direction and problem solving.
Supporting and working closely with Incident Management Operation (IMO) to resolve escalated incidents and customer focused.
Challenge the current ways of working and develop solutions that use the latest available industry tools and work practices, e.g. Ansible and scripting for Automation.
Work closely with key vendors such as Ericsson and Cisco to troubleshoot, raise issues, test and deploy fixes to production.
Knowledge of NFVi and SDN, 4G/5G applications will be advantage.
Development of supportive scripts to validate or interrogate network elements.
Continuously drive down the rate of problem recurrence.
Drive development of innovative customer centric performance monitoring solutions utilising existing tools
Seek opportunities to streamline and automate for life-cycle process improvement.

Essential Skills:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering/ Computer Science / Information Technology / Telecommunications
Minimum of 3+ years of Telecoms industry experience, professional experience in Cloud computing and IP Networking. (e.g. lifecycle management, configuration management, network troubleshooting, virtualised deployments, end-to-end testing).
Certification in SDN/ NFV and Cloud.
Kubernetes/Docker and container knowledge will be beneficial.
Experience in Operations and Engineering in the Cloud or related discipline.
Understanding of Virtual Network Function (VNF), Containerised network function (CNF) applications in Cloud computing, preferably in Ericsson HDS8000.
knowledge in Openstack and Linux.
Strong programming skills in Ansible and Python for the development of automation.
Provide detail and comprehensive reporting on fault investigations and or projects undertaken.
Focused problem-solver and team player
Coding/scripting knowledge and capabilities in mainstream languages and code development standards (e.g. Python, Pearl, Ansible)
Experience with Telstra’s New Ways of Working methodology, practices, and mindset:
Agile, DevOps, Lean, Human Centred Design
Jira, Confluence, Bamboo, BitBucket
Advanced oral and written communication skills that can adapt to different teams, individuals and personality types as well as able to author, review and evaluate technical and non-technical documentation.

Desirable Skills:
Ideally, you will have strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot in a highly challenging environment.
Certification in Networking (CCNA/CCNP or equivalent)
Previous Cloud and data centre operations experience
